How to get rid of Acne Scarring in 5 steps

How to get rid of Acne Scarring in 5 steps

Imagine you have worked really hard to follow all the right steps and skin advice you have been given to clear your acne, only to be left with acne scars which can really affect your self esteem. This is a very common concern we hear post-teenage acne and right through to your adult years.

Unfortunately acne scars can remain for a long time even after your acne breakout is over. Acne scarring can include:

- uneven colour and skin tone

- pitting

- depressions

- indents on the skin

If left untreated, acne scars can worsen and potentially last a lifetime.

Exposure to sun, artificial colour in makeup, and unhealthy lifestyle habits can make matters worse. When you are suffering from an acne breakout, your skin becomes inflamed. This inflammation can attract the sun, which is why you can experience discolouration. Artificial colour in makeup can also make you more susceptible to the sun, resulting in uneven skin tone. Unhealthy lifestyle habits can slow down the healing of the skin.  To help get your fresh and clear skin back it can take a little bit of work. We have made things easier by creating some simple steps to follow. Take a look at the list below.

  1. Enrich your skin with potent doses of Retinol (Vitamin A)

Retinol (Vitamin A) is one of the most essential Vitamins for the skin. It has a relatively small molecular structure, which allows it to penetrate deep into the skin. This means it can repair the lower layers where collagen and elastin are produced which can become damaged during an acne breakout, resulting in pitting. Collagen and elastin are essential skin proteins to rebuild healthy skin growth and development which can correct acne scarring.

Find a product potent in Retinol (Vitamin A) and apply every night. We recommend our Vitamin A Corrector. It uses ASI’s unique nanotechnology to deliver the active ingredients deep into the lower layers of the skin, to encourage absorption and effective results.

  1. Start skin needling twice a week

Skin Needling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is highly effective at reducing acne scarring and body scarring as well as many other skin concerns. The underlying action of this treatment is to stimulate a natural reaction in your skin to produce more of its own collagen and elastin. As well as releasing growth factors to start a rejuvenative process. This allows the skin to break up scar tissue and heal itself.

We reccomend starting on ASI's 0.25mm Dermal Roller and progressing to the 0.75mm Dermal Roller.

  1. Apply Sunscreen to your skin daily

Exposure to the sun can worsen acne scars or dark spots. Sunlight penetrates through the skin and its harmful UVA and UVB rays can cause permanent damage. In order to avoid that, you must use a good quality sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin. Try to find a sunscreen without any artificial colour or fragrance. Our Rejuvenating Day Cream provides sufficient protection whilst keeping the skin hydrating throughout the day.

  1. Exfoliate your skin at least 2-3 times a week

This is one of the best ways to remove dead cells, clear clogged pores and most importantly encourage skin cell turnover. Post acne scars are generally formed on the top layer of the skin. Make sure you use a good quality chemical exfoliant as it won’t irritate or damage your skin like a physical exfoliant will. Our AHA Power Exfoliant is a a potent cosmeceutical exfoliant which uses naturally active Glycolic and Lactic Acid with calming Chamomile. These ingredients combined remove dead skin cells, encourage healthy skin cell formation and stimulate collagen and elastin.

  1. Drink enough water and maintain a healthy diet

Diet plays one of the most important roles in maintaining healthy and happy skin. It is not a direct way to get rid of acne scars but it aids the process. Water removes toxins from the body, and keeps the skin hydrated, plump and healthy.

Your diet should contain all nutrients in right proportions. Make sure that your meals are rich in Vitamins A, E and C because these nutrients feed the skin. Include vegetables of all colours in your diet. Omega 3 Fatty Acids also aid in skin healing and scarring. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, get lots of sleep and change your pillowcase regularly.

Above all else, be consistent in your skincare routine to get the best results.
